UNISCAN
Estimating Computer The hand held estimating computer is an asset to all our clients who want accurate and detailed estimates. The computer is a bar code scanner with a built in keypad and screen. The screen is 4 lines by 16 characters and allows the user to scroll through a menu. The computer weighs 12 oz. and fits in the palm of your hand. This computer can be connected to a PC or laptop to transfer inventories. The scanning wand is adjustable for right or left handed people. |
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your Moving Consultant will walk through the residence with the scanner and a bar coded cube sheet. The bar coded cube sheet provides different categories such as rooms, packing and items. There are currently some 420 different pieces of furniture to select from, each with a given weight. The Moving Consultant will scan the room, in which they are working and then scan the items of furniture they see. The scanner will record the items in the room selected and calculate the weight in pounds and cube. When the selected room is completed, the Moving Consultant scans the next desired room and the items. Once the entire house is complete, the weight may be broken down into weight by room or by the entire shipment weight. If there are any items that will not be moving the Moving Consultant simply selects "leave behind" which places the item in a separate category and subtracts the weight from the total shipment weight. On the inventory printout, the items will be broken down per room, packing and leave behind. Once the articles are listed on the printout, the information is reviewed. Both the customer and the Moving Consultant sign the estimate confirming that the estimate is accurate.
BUT IS IT ACCURATE?
If used correctly, and you show your Moving Consultant all the items to be shipped, the scanner will produce estimates within 10%. All of the weights and cubes on the scan sheet are the same as the current Table of Measurements.
WHY HAVE COMPUTERIZED ESTIMATES?
In the moving industry, shipment weight and the distance it will travel, calculate price. The distance is a constant because two points on a map do not change. Weight is the variable that may fluctuate from estimate and estimate. To establish the weight for billing, the moving company scales the shipment and invoices based on the weight that the scale prints. Getting the estimate as close to the actual weight as possible takes a high level of skill. The computer makes it easy to come within 10% of the actual weight, therefore, providing an accurate estimate of price to the customer. The benefit to the customer is that they get an accurate quote and a printed inventory to substantiate the weight.
WHAT DOES IT DO FOR ME AS A CLIENT?
Most estimates are written on estimate sheets that the customer will never see or be able to read even when shown one. The UNISCAN will give you a printout of all the items that you will be shipping. When confronted with a list of items and weights you will have a tool that you can use to see what is costing you the money to move. If after you review your UNISCAN printout you wish to reduce the amount of goods being shipped. Phone us and we can do a quick edit of your printout and send you another estimate. The printed inventory is an actual list of all the goods in your possession and could be used as an insurance inventory incase of any future disaster.
For Corporate Clients: you have a list of all items that your employee is shipping thus ensuring that your Corporate Moving Policy is being honored by the mover and the employee.
IS THIS JUST ANOTHER SALES GIMMICK?
NO! It takes approximately 4 months until the Moving Consultant feels
conformable with the scanner and can be certified. We believe in the scanner
as being the future of estimating in our industry. The cost of time and
money to develop and test the scanner is now behind us and we are
currently using the UNISCAN in
our day to day operations. We feel that this sales instrument is the future
of our industry. The UNISCAN computer
offers many benefits, both to us and you the consumer.
ABOUT THE SOFTWARE
